tuno noteshow to use tuno notes
everything happens on one board. there is no menu to learn.
making a note
hit "new note" in the header. a card lands on the board with a title and an empty line. click any bare patch of the board and the panel that opens has "new note here", which puts one exactly where you clicked.
double-click a card to open it, then click any line and type. one click does not open anything, so brushing past a note leaves it alone. the card is the editor, so there is no save button and no separate writing mode.
type at the start of a line to change what it is:

**bold** and _italic_ work inside a line.
"add block" at the bottom of a card does the same thing with buttons if you would rather not remember the shortcuts.
moving and resizing
drag a card by the tape at the top, or by any part of it that is not text.
the corner handle resizes. squares and circles keep their proportions; everything else stretches freely.
the board grows as you push cards further out. drag one to the bottom and the page follows it down. the board is as wide as the window, so a card can sit right against the left edge as easily as the right.
if you would rather not drag: focus a card, press "move", and use the arrow keys. hold shift for bigger steps. the resize handle works the same way.
shapes and colours
double-click a card and its controls appear underneath. click away and they go, so a card at rest is only what you wrote.
six shapes, six colours. a new note starts on plain paper; colour is there for when one note needs to stand out from the rest.
backgrounds
every card carries its own pattern, and so does the page. "shuffle" draws a new one.
patterns are generated from a number, not stored as pictures, so the supply does not run out and nothing gets downloaded.
we only offer a pattern if the text on top of it still passes contrast. that check happens before you see it, not after.
your pet
open a card with "expand". the pet sits in the right-hand rail: name it, pick a colour, choose from 131 animals.
it is one pet, not one per note. change it anywhere and it changes everywhere. it lives in the expanded card, not on the board, so it does not come along into a downloaded file.
tuno, the cat in the header, is ours and does not change.
the board panel
click any bare patch of the board and a small panel opens where you clicked.
it holds the things that belong to the page rather than to one note: the page background, "write here" to drop a loose text at that spot, the reading font, and "delete everything".
it also lists anything you have hidden, so that is where you go to bring a piece back.
click away or press escape to close it.
making things go away
almost everything on this page can be removed. the headline, the note count, the footer shortcuts, the footer line, the small print. each one has a "hide" next to it.
what stays: the header, the mascot, and the credits at the bottom.
nothing is lost when you hide it. the board panel keeps a list and puts any of it back.
the page itself
the headline and the footer line are yours to rewrite. click and type.
both can be hidden. a small link brings them back if you change your mind.
a checkbox can be ticked without opening the card. that one is meant to be quick.
an image block wraps whatever you paste, so a tall picture does not sit between two white slabs. once the picture is in, the link field folds away; "change link" brings it back.
downloads
"download" in the header saves the whole board. it asks for pdf or png and the file lands in your downloads. no print dialog opens.
a single card has its own "save as pdf" and "save as png" under it, and they behave the same way.
the file is sized to the board, or to the card, and carries the page background with it. a wide board makes a wide file; nothing is cut or rearranged to fit a paper size.
both formats are pictures. the pdf is one image on one page, so the text in it cannot be selected or searched, and it goes soft if you zoom far enough in. that is the trade for a file your browser writes on its own, with no server and no pdf library shipped to you. if you want the words back, keep the .tuno backup. that is the copy you can edit.
gifs come out on a single frame.
a picture loaded from another site can refuse to be drawn into the file. when that happens the download stops and the board tells you, rather than handing you a hole.
backups
your notes are in this browser and nowhere else. we never send them anywhere.
one exception: an image or gif you add is a link, so your browser fetches it from whoever hosts it. the link is stored, the picture is not.
that also means clearing your browser data deletes them, and no one can recover them for you. there is no account to log back into.
"backup" in the header writes one .tuno file with everything in it. "import" reads it back. do it now and then.
a .tuno file is gzipped json, nothing clever. any tool that can gunzip will open it, so a backup never depends on this site still existing.
keyboard
tab reaches every control, including the ones that only appear while you are editing.
arrow keys inside a text field move the cursor. they only move a card when you have turned on move mode.
"reading font" lives in the board panel and switches to atkinson hyperlegible.
if your system asks for reduced motion, nothing animates and gifs hold on their first frame.
